Tuk-Tuk Tour Price Factors

The price is almost always per tuk-tuk, not per person. A tuk-tuk can comfortably fit two people, and can manage three. Four is possible but very cramped.

What the Price Includes vs. What it Does NOT Include

This is a crucial part to avoid any misunderstandings.

✅ What’s INCLUDED:

  • A full day’s hire of the driver and his tuk-tuk.
  • Fuel and parking fees for the tuk-tuk.
  • The driver waiting for you at each temple for as long as you need.
  • Cold bottled water. Good drivers will have a cooler box filled with it, which is a lifesaver.

❌ What’s NOT INCLUDED:

  • Your Angkor Pass! This is your ticket to the temples. You must buy this yourself at the official Angkor Ticket Office. (Prices: 1-day = $37, 3-day = $62, 7-day = $72).
  • A Licensed Tour Guide. Your driver is a driver. He will get you from A to B but will not go into the temples with you to explain the history. You can hire a separate licensed guide for ~$35-50 per day.
  • Your meals, drinks, or any personal shopping.
  • Tickets for other attractions (e.g., the boat ticket at the floating village).

Essential Tips for Hiring a Tuk-Tuk in Siem Reap

  1. Confirm the Itinerary and Price. Before you get in, confirm exactly what you’re doing. A good way to phrase it is: “Hello, tomorrow we want to do the Small Circuit with sunrise. Price is $20 total for two people, yes? Pick up at 4:30 AM.”
  2. Use Your Hotel’s Driver or Find One You Like. Your hotel can arrange a trusted driver (for a slightly higher but still fair price). Alternatively, if you take a short ride with a driver you like, ask if he is free for a temple tour the next day.
  3. Book Your Driver for Multiple Days. If you find a good driver on day one, hire him for your entire stay. It builds rapport, he gets to know your pace, and you might get a small discount (e.g., $5 off the total price for three days).
  4. Use Ride-Hailing Apps for Short Trips. For single trips around town (e.g., from your hotel to Pub Street), use the Grab or PassApp apps. It’s cheaper (1−1−3 per trip) and eliminates the need to negotiate. For full-day tours, it’s better to negotiate directly with a driver.
  5. Tipping. Tipping is not required but is greatly appreciated. If your driver was safe, friendly, and always had cold water ready, a tip of $3 to $5 at the end of a long day is a wonderful gesture.
